We have a brand new £300 Röhr MIG/ARC 200MI Welder on long term test. It’ll get a hard life probably helping to repair the numerous classics we have coming through the shop. We will review its performance so you can see if it could be for you.

6 Months Later……

First impressions of the welder are good. It’s a smart looking machine with an air of quality. It’s reasonably heavy but I can carry it around no problem. There are a few dials and to be honest I had to watch a couple of YouTube videos to get it set up correctly but once I had the results were extremely impressive. The image below is how I have it set up for my welding 1.0mm sheet steel.

The key to good welding is to have good, clean metal to weld to and if you follow this rule the results you will get with this welder are superb. We practically rebuilt the sills and wheel arches of our MX5 with this welder and it outperformed an older, but more expensive machine in every way. It is so easy to weld just deep enough without blowing holes through the metal and then chasing them all over the job. I’d say it’s made it far easier for less experienced welders in the shop get excellent results right from the off. People who thought they were just rubbish at welding now realise it was the equipment they were using and not their own skills that was the problem!

Highly recommended.
